Michael Laverty was fastest in the official test session today ahead of this weekend’s seventh round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch as he chases a first winning double in the series at the Kent circuit.
The Samsung Honda rider topped the testing times ahead of the races and is confident of strong results to consolidate his fourth place in the overall standings and move him closer to securing a place in the end of season “Showdown”.
“I would like to do my first double win as I really enjoy riding the Grand Prix circuit which is fast and flowing and where I won in the last round of last year,” said Laverty, adding: “Now the focus is on achieving strong points and podium credits but there is going to be plenty of rivalry for those wins!”
Lincolnshire rider Alex Lowes on the WFR Honda closed within 0.074 seconds of Laverty in a tightly fought test session on the Indy circuit, in which the leading 21 riders were covered by less than a second.
Aussie Josh Brookes aboard the Tyco Suzuki was third fastest after setting the pace earlier in the session with reigning champion Tommy Hill on the Swan Yamaha sixth fastest at his home circuit. Former two times title winner Shane “Shakey” Byrne was seventh as the leading contenders prepare for tomorrow’s qualifying and Sunday’s races on the full Grand Prix circuit.
