Motorcycle Clothing – only the best will do

ubg logoDon’t scrimp when it comes to choosing your motorcycle clothing, always spend as much as you can afford, do your research and see what other bikers think of the product. Getting someone else’s opinion on a product has never been easier with the soaring popularity of the internet and the willingness of others to write reviews (good and bad). Why don’t you assist others and write your own reviews on products you have owned and used, spread the news and help others make an informed decision. It’s never been easier with social media and blogging…

The number of motorcycle helmet manufacturers has increased over the past few years meaning more competition and better prices for the consumer. One of the more popular styles is the flip up motorcycle helmet, popular with commuters as you don’t have to take your helmet off when going into a shop or petrol (many petrol stations insist of removing a full face helmet before they enable the petrol pump to be used!) and many come with an integral sun visor, fully legal (unlike a dark visor) as it can be open and closed at the flick of a switch.

Always look for the British safety standard, all helmets worn in the UK must meet ONE of the following;

  • British Standard BS 6658:1985 and carry the BSI Kitemark
  • UNECE Regulation 22.05
  • a European Economic Area member standard offering at least the same safety and protection as BS 6658:1985, and carry a mark equivalent to the BSI Kitemark are an authority when it comes to independent helmet testing, a government led organisation since 2007 offering hundreds of individual helmet tests and ratings.

Overlooked in recent years is the motorcycle leather jacket, replaced by many bikes with the textile jacket, seen by many as a decent all-year-round alternative as it requires less maintenance and doesn’t mind getting wet. The textile jacket is also keenly priced compared to a traditional leather jacket and many offer the added benefit of a removable lining so really can be used in all seasons – useful if you like in the UK!

By comparison leather jackets are heavy and very hot in the summer!

When all said and done, choose motorcycle clothing that is affordable to your budget, provides adequate protection, is comfortable to wear and practical for your circumstances (commuting, track days, riding in all seasons).

Most of all be safe and enjoy…
